Student Centre and The Hub
Our student advisers in the Student Centre in Hamilton and The Hub in Tauranga can help you with all general enquiries, as well as enrolment, fees, programme, student payments, graduation, examination and assessment help. Our student learning team provides a University-wide service to support students’ academic learning needs, at both our Hamilton and Tauranga campuses. Dedicated tutors provide free help and advice with your assignments, referencing, note-taking, exam preparation and other learning support. You can drop in to Student Learning at any time, or book a one-to-one consultation.
Our Library offers many group and quiet study spaces, computer suites, and copying, printing and scanning facilities. They also run free tours and tutorials to help improve your learning, and each faculty has a dedicated Academic Liaison Librarian to help find the materials you need for assignments.
Technology and computer systems
We have a lot of technology systems and computer software available for you to use including free WiFi, personal usernames and email addresses, and 2GB of file storage space that can be accessed off campus. Depending on the faculty you are studying in, there may be additional technology available for you to use.

If you’re thinking about studying at our Tauranga campus, you’ll have access to Te Toka Student Support where successful students provide information on student services, pastoral services and academic help for Māori and Pasifika students.
Career development services
You’ll be studying towards a future career, so why not do all you can to prepare for it? Our team of career development advisers run workshops, drop-in sessions and other events to help you get ready for your future career. They can help you write your CV, cover letter and LinkedIn profile, learn interviewing skills, and even put you in touch with potential employers.
Employability Plus Programme
Our Employability Plus Programme (EPP) offers volunteering opportunities and workshops while you study, giving you work-ready skills that will make you stand out to prospective employers.
Postgraduate student support
The Postgraduate Students’ Association (PGSA) runs free events and workshops to help you make the most of postgraduate study here at Waikato.
As a student at our Hamilton campus, you will have access to low-cost nurse and GP consultations, prescriptions and mental health support once you register with our on-campus Student Health Service. Our Tauranga campus offers a free Health Nurse service with no need to register, just drop in!
We have trained counsellors at our Hamilton campus to help you through whatever problems you’re facing, such as loneliness, stress, anxiety, depression, relationships and sexuality. We also have a relationship with Bay Counselling for our Tauranga students.
Accessibility Services provide a range of services to students such as note-taking support, assistive technology, alternative exam arrangements, sign-language interpreters, mobility parking permits, specialist equipment and much more.
The Lady Goodfellow Chapel at the Hamilton campus is available to students of any faith for quiet times of meditation, with two chaplains available if you need someone to talk to. There are also two Muslim Prayer Rooms on the Hamilton campus - one for male and one for female students. A chaplain visits our Tauranga campus regularly.
Getting involved in sport is a great way to meet new friends and keep healthy. Our Hamilton campus offers the UniRec gym, a pool and sports courts. Tauranga students can drop in to free sport sessions at the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre, participate in social sports, take yoga classes or join The Gym or the Toi Ohomai Aquatic and Fitness Centre.
